Negative energy is contagious and we are going to learn how to get rid of negativity in your life once and for all. If you are around it a lot then it’s likely that you can develop negative thoughts and energy as well. It’s a bad snowball effect. Likewise, positive energy is contagious and the more you are surrounded with good energy the more you will produce it as well.
You might even notice that whenever you hear someone else complaining, then you join in on it. The energy influences the energy in the room. If you find yourself feeling down or producing negative thoughts then reevaluate who you are spending your time with.
In this article you will learn how to get rid of negativity in your life today, even if you can’t directly get “away” from those people who are making you feel down especially if it’s your family or classmates.

How to Get Rid of Negativity In Your Life Today
- Determine Where the Negative Energy Is Coming From
The first step of removing negativity from your life is to determine why you are feeling negative emotions and where exactly they are coming from. Are they coming from your work? What about your home?
It’s never a good time to be in a toxic environment. I’m not sure about you, but negative energy always affects my mood when I’m working or in my personal life. Quite honestly, it throws me off and I’m not as productive.
Thinking back to a few years ago, I don’t think I would have the confidence to remove negative energy/people out of my life. However, now I don’t have a problem with it at all. It’s all in your mindset. The older I seem to get, the more I want to surround myself with people who want the best for me and those who support me. Truly, it’s a wonderful thing when you cut off the negative energy in your life and fill it with positivity. Once you do that, great things will come your way, I promise.
Now that you’ve determined where the negativity is coming from, it’s time to actually do something about it.
- Cut Off the Negative People In Your Life (If You Can)
Sometimes it’s not easy to cut off negative people in your life because they could be the people closest to you. But hear me out, we all deserve to be happy and be filled with great people surrounding us.
Now I’m not saying to stop talking to your family members if they aren’t always the most positive people but there are ways around it. The bottom line is that family will always be family. Think about talking to those family members and communicating what you are feeling. Being honest is always the best way to go about this.
If you are in a toxic friend group who always seem to be gossiping or spreading hate then slowly stop hanging around them. Same with your workplace, if you have coworkers who aren’t the best to be around, then slowly start to distance yourself from them. Again, this can be difficult if it’s your boss or management. Try your best to just focus on your work and try to find people within the company who are more positive. If you absolutely can’t get away from the negative people think about applying to other jobs.
- Change Your Mindset
Like I said before, I wasn’t always the most confident or positive person. It’s taken years of mindset shifts and manifestation to get me where I am today. I know for a fact that it isn’t always easy to stay positive especially when you are having one of those days.
Changing your mindset can change your life. If you start thinking about the positive in everything then you are on the right path. For example, if something in your life didn’t go as planned, instead of saying “I wish this would have happened instead,” say something like “No problem, what I want and wish for is coming really soon.” This simple mindset switch is LIFE CHANGING, I’m not kidding.
- Always Be Grateful
At the end of the day, you don’t know what anyone else is going through in their life. Just because someone may have pissed you off at the grocery store doesn’t mean that you should return the favor. Always think about the long term and if this isn’t going to matter in 5 hours or 5 days then don’t blink an eye about it.
Being grateful for the things and people you have in your life will completely change the game. Starting each day with a grateful mind and heart will clear your mind from any of those negative feelings.
- Learn to Journal
There’s just something about putting pen to paper sometimes. Learn how to take the time to journal in a little notebook. Write down all the bad things and all the good things in your life. There’s just a great feeling associated with doing this and learning to let go of things.
Those thoughts are now out of your mind and on paper. They will be there for you to look back on but for now, try not to think about them too much. Now it’s the universe’s turn to take the handle.

- Fill Your Life with Things That Make You Happy
Take a second to think about all the things that make you happy in life. What are they? Do you enjoy bike riding or doing yoga? Maybe it’s spending a day at the park with your family or taking the boat out for a spin. Whatever it is, think about this time as self-care for yourself. Make time for it!
These things might just seem like “fun” and sometimes we put them on the backburner but we honestly shouldn’t be! Take some time for yourself and do things that genuinely make you a happier person. This will help remove negativity in your life.
- Learn to Let Go
We’ve talked about how to detect negative energy in a person, how to get rid of negativity, and how to journal your feelings. Now, it’s the best time of all, learning to let go.
Letting go is never easy but sometimes it’s all worth it in the end. Think about your higher self and your best life and determine who is in it and where you are in life. If you find yourself hanging around people who are making you down then learn to let go of them as much as you can.
This was such an inspiring post! One thing that I really took away from this is to try to fill things in your life that are making you happy, as well as learning to let go. I definitely could work on those.

Great post!
I’m using a gratitude journal so I can practice being grateful.
Interesting. I recently attended an NLP and mindfulness training for personal development and these were pretty much the same things that I learnt there. And I have started journaling, for the past few days
